3 Homemade Blends For A Healthy Life
I usually share food recipes, because I believe you can maintain a good mental and physical health with good food. They say, that the journey to heart is through the stomach, and seriously, who doesn’t like good food. Daily exercise, good food and a healthy lifestyle are few good measures to stay fit. But you can face a bad situation any given day. I am not talking like a very bad situation, just in general like being sick, anxious, etc. For days like those, only good food is not enough, that’s when you need medicines, this is when knowing a few home remedies are useful to treat usual problems, so today I will share recipes, but not food recipes, medicinal recipes. Blends, pills and concoctions you can easily prepare at home, for normal problems like cold, flu, and might also prevent you from dreadful diseases.
- Turmeric Lemonade
4 cups cold water (or at room temperature)
2 tablespoons freshly grated or powdered turmeric
4-5 tablespoons of lemon juice
juice of one orange
Mix the lemon juice and orange juice.
Add the turmeric to this mixture.
Add you preferred sweeting, I add honey because it has the most medicinal values out of all.
Strain if you want to and serve.
Turmeric is a super root that has great medicinal values. The interesting thing about turmeric is, it is used to treat everything right from a normal cough and cold to cancer and even to get a fairer skin tone. The lemon and orange juice are rich in Vitamin C and the tangy flavors help to boost the energy levels and activate your body and mind. The lemon and orange juices also elevate the mood and relive depression and anxiety. This drink is a perfect remedy for a rather dull day when you are feeling tired or depressed. But you can also consume it as a general tonic, to prevent yourself from a simple cold or even a life threatening disease like cancer or to boost your immunity levels.
- Golden Mixture
100 grams of organic honey
1 tablespoon freshly grated or powdered turmeric
1 teaspoon fine grated lemon zest
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons natural apple cider vinegar
Add the black pepper in turmeric and mix it well.
Add the lemon zest and mix again.
Now add the apple cider vinegar and mix yet again.
Finally add the organic honey to make a paste.
Once everything is combined well, you can refrigerate it and store it.
This homemade medicine again contains a lot of turmeric, which we know carries many medical values. The lemon zest, apple cider vinegar, honey and black pepper add to the benefits of turmeric. This golden mixture stays true to its color. It is an elixir to life. It has strong antibiotic and antibacterial properties, which makes this mixture a great medicine for viral and bacterial infections. This mixture can also be consumed to boost the immunity levels. It also prevents cancer.
- Herbal Cough Drops
1 teabag peppermint tea or 1 tablespoon peppermint
1 teabag chamomile tea or 1 tablespoon chamomile
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon freshly grated ginger or dried ginger powder
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
3/4 cup boiling water
3/4 cup honey
8-10 drops of peppermint essential oil
Add the peppermint, chamomile, cinnamon, ginger, and black pepper in boiling water for 10 minutes or more and let it steep.
Strain off water, and pour into a small saucepan.
Heat over medium heat until mixture begins to boil.
Continue boiling until mixture reaches 300º.
Watch carefully, as it is really easy to burn when it gets this hot!
Let mixture cool for 5-10 minutes, until it starts to get syrupy.
Now add a few drops of peppermint essential oils
Drop by small spoonfuls onto parchment paper and let cool.
Dust with cornstarch, or potato starch to absorb condensation and prevent them from sticking together in the storage jar.
Store in an airtight container.
The name says it all. These drops are a perfect blend to treat your cough or cold, or even to soothe a congested, itchy, or sore throat.
