One of the most important properties of massage oils should be viscosity. The oil should be viscous, which means that it should not be dense and should flow easily on the skin. While performing a massage, it is necessary to avoid any friction. Hence, good oils will provide the necessary lubrication required to nullify any friction effects that may occur and thus enables swift gliding movements. It should also be absorbed into the skin at a considerably quick rate.

Certain oils, for example, hemp oil tends to leave the skin a tad bit dry. In massages, this property is usually not preferred.
